Chairs look good and are comfortable. But the sheet of instructions could be much better. A small plastic bag with screws of different sizes was included, but the directions did not indicate the proper location for each kind of screw. There were also washers -- two different sizes -- but it was not clear from the diagrams where they should be placed. If the directions were clearer, these chair would get a 5+, in my opinion.
You don't get much value in today's world, but these are an exception. These are make in Malaysia of hardwood. They weigh 13.2 lbs. assembled. I like the wood seat as opposed to the fabric covered versions. To get some comfort and added height, we just use seat cushions. These are replacing desk chairs as they just don't go high enough to get the proper height. With the cushions, these are great. The cushions we use are the type that you get for outdoor chairs. They are thicker and more comfy. The way these are assembled with bolts and screws, they are actually stronger than way chairs used to be assembled. I received two extra of each bolt \ screw \ washer. I purchased a dining room table and chairs that are very much like these, assembled the same way, but these chairs are half the price of those . We thought because of the weight of these chairs they should have been shipped UPS instead of through the USPS. Great chairs !After using these for a while, I downgraded them a little for one thing that keeps them from perfect. The lower bar on the back of the chair is too low, hitting one's back about the sacroiliac. Most furniture today is not designed for comfort, but for looks. A comfortable chair allows your backside to scoot back, thus supporting your upper back, which leads to a comfortable position. This is not such a big deal for me, because I tend to lean forward a little, thus not leaning against the chair. I thought about flush cutting off the lower bar, but the other half would be really mad, best to avoid that.
We needed kitchen table chairs and didn't want to buy a whole new set. We found these and took a chance. They are working very well. My husband put them together with minimal fuss. He did not add glue or epoxy and they continue to be sturdy and just what we needed. We have a small space in our small kitchen for a table and chairs. By changing to this type of chair, we actually have more room than we had before.
If these chairs came assembled, I would be giving them five stars. They are attractive, well-made, and a good basic design. However, the set I received HAD NO ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS. Luckily I have some mechanical and woodworking experience. So, I was able to figure out what the various screws were to be used for. The detail that I think would have confounded a non-mechanical person was that some of the rungs had screw holes and some did not. A person not familiar with how things like this are built, might not have figured out that the non-screw hole rungs went on the upper holes in the legs, and the ones with screw holes went in the bottom holes and we're screwed in place to support the outward stress created when someone sits on the chair. The hardware kit came with an Allen wrench which is needed for most of the books. You will need to also supply your own Phillips head screw driver for the screws that hold the lower rungs. There was a lot of extra hardware left over. And since I did not have assembly instructions, I have no idea whether I missed certain assembly steps or if the extra hardware is used for other kits that have other assembly pieces. Perhaps it was an oversight that I did not get the instructions. If you feel confident that you could assemble these chairs then I would not hesitate to buy them. They are very nice chairs. To help you decide if you're mechanical skills are adequate I will simply mention that the chair is held together by eight bolts and six wood screws.
These chairs are pretty boss...PROs:- Made in Malaysia, NOT China... what this means is that you are getting quality (as far as what Americans are used to these days)- The quality shows right out of the box.. well packaged, clear instructions, simple deisgn- The finish is real wood, not a thin veneer, floor bumpers are already installed- Assembly is easy- The look is fantastic, geniune and warm -- not fake looking or cheap looking- QC is great, we got 6 chairs, all were the same an in spec.. except for one which has one unseen support on the underside as a darker colour.. no big deal, wont be seen anyway...PRO-TIPS:- Use a power drill/driver/impact with an allen-head bit to drive all the screws faster and effortlessley... doing this by hand would be tedious otherwise... its 2016, you can afford a cheap electric drill/driver... get one..- Have a helper layout the parts and fasteners to hand them to you when you need themBottom line:You really can't knock these chairs.. they came shipped on time, they surprisingly were not made in China, the quality proves this claim, they are sturdy, QC is tight, and they look genuine (they are) -- sure you can get better looking seats, but the value of these are simply spot-on... get you some!
