Pro: looks good; doesn't sway or wobble; attractive wood caps cover all screws; included anti-tip kit not needed unless you have small childrenNote, neither pro nor con: When it arrived, I thought the wood was a bit lighter in color than the picture, but maybe it was just my monitor.Con:(1) Packed in a lot of styrofoam -- A LOT of styrofoam. In this day and age, they should have used recycled and recyclable cardboard.(2) Seemed harder to assemble than it should have been. Assembly took about an hour for each bookcase. (a) Getting the rails (at back of bookcase) attached to the sides was really tough, because the sides kept falling over. The instructions recommended leaving the partial assembly against a wall, but I found a heavy box worked better. If you possibly can,get a second person to hold things while you drive in screws. (b) All screws needed an Allen wrench. They did include one, but starting wood screws with an Allen wrench is pretty tedious. I recommend you do what I did when assembling the third bookcase: use a drill to start each screw, then finish tightening by hand. (c) Attaching the shelves required holding a washer between two pieces of wood with one hand, while putting a screw in position with the other hand and driving it with the third hand. Okay, it wasn't quite that bad, but still this was another frustrating part of assembly because it took many tries to get the washer positioned and then drive the screw without the washer moving.Recommendation to buyer: Drive all screws loosely until you've done all the assembly, and don't worry that it feels wobbly. When you then tighten all of them, it will become rigid. But you do need to hand tighten them until they won't turn any more.Recommendation to manufacturer: I really, really wish you shipped this assembled and folded. I think the box would still be the same size, or only slightly bigger, and you wouldn't have needed so much packing material. I'd have been willing to pay another $10 for that.
If you are looking for a nice-sized bookshelf that does not dominate a room or impose itself on you, this is it. This bookshelf comes with collapsing shelves and top so you can easily fold it down to a flat shape for either moving or storage. The wood components are good quality as are the attachment pieces (i.e., the latches, the screws, the pins, and pegs, etc.). You can get it in a variety of colors: I purchased both a dark brown and a natural one for use in two different rooms.Assembly is straightforward if you take the time to review the instructions before you get started. Like most assembly tasks, once you are done it turns out to be a much easier process than it first seemed. So, take the time to read over the instructions before you get started and visualize how the parts go together, and you can have this thing together in 15 minutes. These look quite nice, not cheap and flimsy, but something better quality so that it can go with a variety of furniture and settings. A lot of these types of shelves do not come with a top covering shelf, so note that this one does, and it is a big bonus because it looks nicer that way and you can also use it for nick-nacks, and so on. A great item, particularly when you consider the very reasonable price for what you get.
Very upset, received delivery and the product itself if very nice and very heavy, but the accessories package was not in the box!!!! No screws, no washers, no wood plugs, nothing to put the bookcase together. Now they expect me to prove proof of purchase, control number and all this to get the missing set of accessories. To try and send back, it is so heavy, I can’t lift by myself. The post office young man , sat it in the entryway for me. Poor way of doing business for a product that is actually a nice looking, well designed product, but not having the accessories package in the box is crap!!!!!
The advertising for this is VERY misleading. It does not arrive as a simple-to-set up folding bookcase. Instead, they ship you dozens of tiny little pieces that require extensive assembly. The entire point of a folding bookcase is that it ships in a compact form and all you need to do is unfold it and perhaps attach a few shelf holders. I would strongly advise against buying this. For the amount of labor required, you could just buy some dimensional lumber and make the bookcase yourself from scratch. You'd end up with better quality for less money and about the same amount of effort.
Great shelf that is not really easy to assemble but with a few of the tricks listed below it is much easier than the instructions. My self arrived in pristine shape with the one dark piece everyone mentions..1.brace one leg up against something while laying it on it's side2. install ALL of the pieces to that leg top to bottom starting with top shelf3. when installing bottom 3 shelves hold screw with one hand so that it is far enough through to hang the washer (smooth side in towards leg) on it4. using other hand align shelf with screw and then S L O W L Y tighten it5. repeat for other 2 shelved6. for the wood braces do the same thing sans washer. Remember to put the dark one at the bottom where it will not be seen so easily*IMPORTANT PART HERE*7 repeat steps 3-6 bit this time do not tighten all the way, only go in a quarter of an inch so you will have room to get the washer between the 3 shelves and remaining side leg.8. Once you have all the pieces installed go back from top to bottom and tighten all of the screws S L O W L Y.9. Install wood caps if desired
This is a good product and arrived on time in good condition. I will buy again.
Bought this for my sons new bedroom set. Very nice, great quality and price.
